Financial aid to BPL students

By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, June 16 In a timely and quick initiative just ahead of the final phase of admissions in different academic institutions of higher education and to express solidarity with a number of meritorious students from the economically-backward section of Mangaldai LAC who achieved first division in this years HSLC and HSSLC final examinations, local legislator and the State Minister for Fisheries and Water Resources Basanta Das today offered financial assistance to 108 students according to their needs.

The students have been selected on the basis of their applications supported by relevant documents proving them to be members of BPL families. These students are now having a sigh of relief as the uncertainty to continue their future education is almost over.

Basanta Das, who is also the president of the Mangaldai Unnayan Parishad, a leading socio-cultural non-government organisation of the district, has come forward with this noble effort in his individual capacity to offer financial assistance. The students of poorer section living in rural areas of the constituency were facing hardships in getting their admissions for higher studies. This meagre amount is not sufficient for them, but it will surely encourage them. I will look forward to extend assistance to more such students in the near future, said Basanta Das while talking to mediapersons after the distribution function at his residence here this afternoon.
