NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Aug 31 - The publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Lakhimpur district was received peacefully today.
The list was made available across 73 NRC Seva Kendras in the district since morning. There were 11,21,459 applicants for the NRC update from 2,36,760 families in Lakhimpur district. The first draft of NRC published earlier saw deletion of approximately 49,000 names in Lakhimpur district. The entire process of updating NRC in Lakhimpur district saw 2001 employees including 74 disposing officers providing services in 73 NSKs in the district. There are also two Foreigners Tribunals in the district where the dropped-out applicants can move to lodge complains. There have been no reports of any untoward incidents from anywhere in the district following the publication of NRC draft.
ANN Service adds from Sivasagar: The final NRC publication in 47 NSKs in the district was completely peaceful in the district. Help desks in the NSKs, DC office and RCOs helped out citizens in checking entry of their names.
Our Dhubri Correspondent adds: The supplementary list of inclusions of names in NRC was published peacefully in the entire district of Dhubri, at all the 136 NSKs, six Circle offices and the office of the Deputy Commissioner on Saturday.
Talking to this correspondent, the Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri Anant Lal Gyani said, �There have been no reports of any irregular incidents or events related to it as of yet�. The Deputy Commissioner also said that they are not in the position to give the appropriate number of names that have been included or excluded from the final list.
Our Kokrajhar Correspondent adds: The much-awaited updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam was released today.
As soon as the final list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam was published this morning at 10 am, people in large numbers rushed to the NRC Seva Kendra in Kokrajhar district to check their names.
It may be mentioned here that the list has been published through 97 NSKs in Kokrajhar district.
Deputy Commissioner Kokrajhar Partha Pratim Majumder said that public was eagerly waiting till today and they are satisfied. No question and complaint have come as yet. More than 600 government employees have been deployed in the district for the last six years.
Our Nalbari Correspondent adds: The names of around 9000 people have been dropped from the final list of NRC which was published at 73 centres in Nalbari district today. The people today came to the NRC Sewa Kendra to check their names immediately after the list was published at 10 am. However, great resentment prevailed among the people whose names were dropped from the final NRC.
The names of the family of Arati Bala Baishya and her three sons of Morowa village in Nalbari district have been dropped from the final list of NRC which was published today. Besides, while talking to this correspondent Phulendra Das, the elder son of the lady expressed great resentment as their names were excluded from NRC. Das said that they were invited for hearing to Mukalmua where they produced all their documents but unfortunately the names were finally dropped from NRC. �I am a daily wage labourer. How can my poor family to continue legal fight to include the names, � he lamented. He added that the names of his younger brother Pankaj Baishya and Jaydev Baishya were also dropped. However the name of his sister-in-law Bhanita Haloi has been included.
A Correspondent adds from Nagaon: Along with the rest of the State, the district NRC authority today here in Nagaon displayed the final NRC at 183 NSK centres and seven revenue circle offices of the district. During the day, no incidents of violence was reported till filing of this report. Sources declined to state anything about the number of the people left out from the final NRC.
On the other hand, the names of 10 mainstream indigenous Assamese people from three families of Doboka in Hojai district were left out. Interestingly, soon after publication of the NRC, the State Minister for Health, Pijush Hazarika said here at Nagaon that the NRC was nothing but a record of doom of the mainstream indigenous Assamese people and the ruling BJP was not satisfied with the updated NRC published today.
