Filmmaker Deep Choudhury, music director Anurag Saikia awarded

GUWAHATI, March 10 - Filmmaker Deep Choudhury received the Bidyut Chakravarty Creative Award 2018, while music director Anurag Saikia got the Sher Choudhury Creative Award 2018 at a function held at the Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir here today.

The awards are given as a joint initiative by Oil India Limited and cultural organization Surjya in association with the Bidyut Chakravarty Creative Trust. Each award comprises a trophy, a citation and a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

The first award has been instituted in the memory of Bidyut Chakravarty, who made his debut as director of Raag Biraag, which won three national awards. He served as a jury member for the National Awards and was also the president of Surjya till his death.

Sher Choudhury composed music in national award-winning film Pratham Ragini and Karbi film Wosobipo, which fetched him a national award for best music director.

Eminent filmmaker Dr Santwana Bardoloi was the speaker for today�s function.

Award-winning film director Deep Choudhury co-directed his first short film I am a Poet in 2009. His Hindi/Marathi short film Fishing Surmai fetched him the best director jury award at the Mumbai International Short Film Festival in 2014. His latest film Alifa was awarded the best film by a debutant director at the 64th National Film Award 2017.

Meanwhile, Anurag Saikia received the best music producer award from Big Music, India for his album Tup Tup. So far, he has worked in a number of films including Shikaar, Man with the Binoculars, Dikchou Banat Palasax, Ishu, Maaj Rati Keteki.
