UDALGURI, Feb 1 - The 65th Filmfare Awards ceremony scheduled to be held in Guwahati on February 15 has been opposed by the chief advisor of the All Assam Students Union (AASU), Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjya.
Attending the first day of the Kalaguru Sangeet Mahotsav 2020 hosted by Zubeen Garg at Tangla HS playground at Tangla town of Udalguri district on Friday, the chief adviser of AASU said the Filmfare Awards Ceremony has been organised as a part of the governments attempt to divert the peoples attention from the anti-CAA agitations across Assam.
Expressing his resentment on the awards ceremony to be held on February 15 in Guwahati, Bhattacharjya said, We are not against the artistes from Mumbai. But the matter to ponder over is that government has donated Rs 30 lakh to a private event and if required they will offer more donation and that is annoying. Jyoti Prasad Agarwala was the first filmmaker of Assam. Has this organisation done anything for Jyoti Prasad? It is a question every common man is asking today, Bhattacharjya questioned.
However, popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg came out in support of the Filmfare Awards 2020. He said thats good for us. He said our protests is not against sports and culture or any Filmfare Award some artists have opposed it but it is uncalled for as we must not boycott such an extravagant event because the Bollywood mega stars and others will never visit Assam if such events were not held.
It is quite ironical to note that the two engineers of the ongoing anti-CAA movement in the State have come out with opposite views regarding the hosting of mega Filmfare Awards ceremony in Assam for the first time.
Meanwhile, a conscious citizen and a fan of Zubeen Garg told this correspondent that CAA is a different issue and it should not have been raised in an august event like the Kalaguru cultural festival. Rather every Assamese should be proud of holding such a mega event in Assam and it is expected that the government would surely able to get a handsome revenue from it, he said.
