Film fraternity remembers Munin Barua

GUWAHATI, Nov 8 - Rich tributes were paid to renowned filmmaker Late Munin Barua at a recent function where speakers described him as a master of his craft, a meticulous playwright and a perfectionist director.

The function organised on the occasion of the late filmmaker�s 72nd birth anniversary on November 5 was inaugurated by noted thespian Kulada Kumar Bhattacharjee by lighting the ceremonial lamp, which was followed by rendition of a Borgeet by noted musician Diganta Bharati and his wife, Bhaswati Bharati.

Munin Barua breathed his last on April 7 this year.

On the occasion, a commemorative volume � Kala Mohian � was also released jointly by Kulada Kumar Bhattacharjee, Manju Bora, Nipan Goswami, Mridula Barua, Dinesh Das, Pulak Gogoi, Priti Saikia, Kapil Thakur, Anuradha Sarma Pujari, Sankar Lal Goenka, Bidya Rao, Sambhu Gupta and Dr Hitesh Barua.

The volume contains write-ups on his life and works written by several personalities who were closely associated with Barua.

National Award winning director and actor Sanjib Hazarika, director Bani Das, cinematographer Suman Duarah, Chairman of Jyoti Chitraban Film Society Pabitra Margherita, senior journalist Achyut Patowary and late Barua�s son and film director Manas Barua also spoke on their association with late Barua, who was a pillar of strength and wisdom for the entire film fraternity of Assam.

The speakers also described him as a hardcore nationalist and a compassionate family man.

The function, organised by late Barua�s family and the film fraternity of Assam, was anchored by Garima Saikia Garg. It was also addressed by film director Rajesh Bhuyan, actress Aimi Barua and senior police officer and actor Parthasarathi Mahanta.
