Fight at Sonapur toll plaza

By Correspondent

JORABAT, Aug 5 - An FIR has been lodged against toll plaza employees for allegedly manhandling a leader of a local organisation at the newly functional toll plaza at Nazirakhat in Sonapur area today.

The incident took place when president of the Dimoria unit of All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS) Ratneshwar Rahang and a few other members of the organisation who were travelling towards Guwahati from Sonapur, were stopped at the toll plaza around 3.30 pm today.

According to Rahang, the toll plaza employees refused to allow their car to cross the gate even after they showed them the car pass.

The toll plaza employees misbehaved with us and also tore up the car pass, showing physical aggression, alleged a local resident who was travelling in the same car.

The incident soon turned into a fight between the two groups and police personnel from Sonapur Police Station had to rush to the spot to control the situation. However, the situation still remains tense as the locals seem to be enraged over the incident.

It may be mentioned that prior to the lockdown, several protests were held in Sonapur area against setting up of the toll plaza. The local people are unhappy as the Sonapur area falls under the tribal belt and they believe that the toll plaza will only add to their woes.
