Fifth volume of anthology of Ambikagiris Chetana released

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 19 - Chetana, created by Asam Kesari Ambikagiri Raichoudhury, was an epic reflecting the socio-political life of the Assamese nationality. It is simply astonishing as to how he could devote himself to keeping the Assamese psyche vibrant by setting up the Aruna Press and publishing Chetana from it, virtually all alone. The progeny of the present-day Assamese people will be astounded when they will stumble upon the fact that there lived such a personality in Assam.

This was the observation made by noted scholar Prof Ranjit Dev Goswami while releasing the fifth volume of the anthology of Chetana at Amar Ghar, the old-age home at Patharkuweri here, on the occasion of the Chetana Divas yesterday.

With Chetana, Ambikagiri added the Lower Assam style of Assamese language, which infused new energy into the language, he said.

Prof Dev Goswami lauded the city-based Pragjyotish College for its efforts at bringing out the anthologies of the Chetana in book form. This is a great work done by the College, he said.

Addressing the function as the distinguished guest and releasing the collection of the Ambikagiri Raichoudhury Smarak Baktrita (Ambikagiri Memorial Lectures) published by the Ambikagiri Memorial Trust, noted writer Lakshminath Tamuly appreciated the move to publish the Chetana and the memorial lecture volumes as very important for the national life of the Assamese people at this crucial hour.

It needs mention here that the Ambikagiri Memorial Trust is also associated with the bid to publish the fifth volume of the anthology of the Chetana.

The function was presided over by Biswa Dutta, chairman of the Ambikagiri Memorial Trust. The function was also addressed by Ambikagiri Memorial Trust trustee Jugabrata Dutta, Asam Sahitya Sabha president Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi and Pragjyotish College principal Dr Manoj Kumar Mahanta.

The fifth volume of the anthology of the Chetana was edited by Dr Paramananda Majumdar and he was assisted by Dr Parasmani Das.
