By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, June 6 - The FICCI FLO Northeast, in collaboration with the State Forest Department and as a part of the State government initiative 'Green Guwahati', carried out free distribution and plantation of 1,50,200 saplings across Guwahati within a fortnight, with NGOs, organisations and individuals from various areas of the city also participating in the drive with great enthusiasm.

As part of the initiative, saplings were distributed to a large number of schools, colleges, institutions, factories and households of the city, stated a press release issued here today.

FLO Northeast also carried out plantation of 100 saplings at the Assam State Zoo to make it a greener habitat for the animals and a soothing area for visitors. The symbolic plantation was carried out by the FLO Northeast members along with the Forest and Zoo officials. Environment-friendly enclosures were also provided in order to ensure safety and healthy growth of the saplings. FICCI FLO expressed gratitude to Tejas Mariswamy, IFS, DFO, Assam State Zoo, Mukul Tamuly, Range Officer, Guwahati Division, and Ranjit Dutta of the Assam State Zoo for their cooperation, the release added.

Although this drive was carried out in conformity with World Environment Day, the FLO Northeast wishes to take this initiative forward, and plants will continue to be available, free of cost, across the three nurseries located at Pirpara, Satgaon and Basistha, to encourage Guwahatians to make the city greener, the release further stated.
