Fewer road mishaps during Durga Puja in State this year

GUWAHATI, Oct 27 - This year Assam has witnessed a drastic decline in the number of road accidents during the Durga Puja days in comparison to last year.

According to data availed from the Mrityunjoy 108 ambulance service, from October 23 to 26, a total of 301 road accident cases were reported across the State, whereas last year the ambulance service had recorded as many as 472 such cases during the puja days.

Among the reported cases, the highest 39 road traffic accidents were reported from Sonitpur district, followed by Kamrup (32) and Nagaon (21) districts. Last year the highest 65 cases were reported from Kamrup district, followed by Nagaon (38) and Golaghat (33) districts.

On October 23, altogether 50 accident cases were reported in the State, out of which the highest seven cases each were reported from Dhubri and Golaghat districts.

On October 24, altogether 69 cases were reported and among them the highest seven cases were reported from Sonitpur district.

On October 25, the number of reported accident cases was 87 including the highest ten each reported from Kamrup and Udalguri districts.

October 26, the day of Bijoya Dashami, recorded the maximum number of road accidents in the State. The data of 108 ambulance service revealed that as many as 95 cases were reported during the day and the highest 18 cases were reported from Sonitpur district.

According to 108 ambulance service, last year as many as 88 road accidents were reported at Saptami, 136 were reported at Ashtami, 119 at Navami and 129 accidents were reported at Bijoya Dashami across the State.

This time Guwahati also witnessed a lesser number of road accidents during the puja days in comparison to last year. According to the data availed from the 108 ambulance service, this time only four accident cases were reported in the city whereas last year the figure was 28.
