Festive ambience at Nalbari, Patacharkuchi

NALBARI, Sept 28 � Despite inclement weather since the past few days, pre-Durga Puja festivities have gripped the people of entire Nalbari district as preparations for the annual autumn fest at more than a hundred community puja pandals are under way.

Durga Puja will also be celebrated at the historic Bilbeswar Devalaya, Balilecha Kali Mandir and Bagheswari Devalaya, among others. At the historic Bilbeswar Devalaya of Belsor and Adattari Durga Mandir in Nalbari district, Nabaratri Durga Puja is being celebrated from September 25, i.e., from the day of Mahalaya.

On Mahanavami day, a total of 34 buffaloes will be sacrificed at the Bilbeswar Devalaya.

It may be mentioned here that thousands of devotees will gather at the Devalaya to witness the Navami Puja. Devotees will also throng the Balilecha Kali Mandir and Bagheswari Devalaya of Adabari, two others important puja sites of the district. Kumari Puja will also be performed at Adattari near Mukalmua in Nalbari district.

Kumari Puja of Adattari attracts thousands of people from various part of the State. Nine teenage girls will be worshipped on Navami as nine various forms of Devi Durga. Preparations are also going on to celebrate Ravan Dahan at Tihu Barowari Durga Puja mandap on Bijoya Dashami.

Besides, the Durga Puja celebration committees of Karia, Ulabari, Bagalchak, Barbari, Kamarkuchi and Ghograpar have also begun preperations for celebrating the annual autumn fest. Puja shopping has also picked up since the last two days at Nalbari town. A sizeable gathering has been witnessed in the textile outlets of the town, which amply reflects the festive spirit among the people.

In the meantime, the Nalbari district administration has beefed up security arrangements in the entire district to ensure peace and normalcy during the Puja days.The administration held a round of sittings with the presidents and secretaries of the puja committees and urged them to cooperate with the police administration in maintaining peace and tranquality in the district.The Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari, Dr Om Prakash has taken some special measures for smooth celebration of Durga Puja.

In Patacharkuchi: Preparations are almost complete for celebration of Durga Puja at Patacharkuchi, our correspondent adds.

The festivities will start on September 30 and conclude on October 4. Bijoya Dasami will be celebrated with an attractive programme in the river bed of Kaldia. On Bijoya Dasami, the river bed will be decorated with banana plantains and rafts. The rafts on the other hand will be decorated with earthen lamps and subsequently immersed along with the immersion of the idols of Mother Durga and her cohorts.

A comparatively big-sized Mahisasur will be symbolically killed with crackers in an attempt to subjugate evil powers and promote good over evil. On the puja days, arrangement for ojapali, dhulia, jatra party and naam prasanga will be made, as informed by the celebration committee.
