IMPHAL, June 23 - The five-day Festival of Pineapple and Summer Fruits came to an end at Sangaithel Park in Manipur�s Imphal West district on Sunday.
The festival was jointly organised by Manipur Government, Central Agricultural University and Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Speaking on the occasion Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh assured that the State Government is ready to provide all possible support to farmers to enhance production of fruits.
Stating that the State is still largely dependent on the products and commodities imported from outside, he said as such, there is a need for a well-planned systematic approach to increase production in the State. Stating that the State Government is now focussing on assisting farmers and entrepreneurs, he informed that educated youths and hardworking farmers are being provided soft loans and help through StartUp Manipur.
He informed Manipur Livelihood Mission has been introduced to increase fish production, adding that steps have been taken to export organic ginger produced in Pherzawl district since last year.
Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Shyamkumar said that a mini cold storage facility would be constructed at Sangaithel soon for the convenience of farmers. He urged the farmers to focus on producing organic produces.
