By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 20 - The Food Corporation of India (FCI), North East Zone, is undertaking a number of events and activities coinciding with the 3rd Rashtriya Poshan Maah.

The Rashtriya Poshan Maah is being celebrated across the country during September. The primary objective of the Poshan Maah is to encourage public partnership in order to create a mass movement for addressing malnutrition among children and women and to ensure health and nutrition for everyone, stated an official statement issued today.

All the stakeholder ministries of the Government of India are undertaking activities during the month of September to bring nutrition in focus through their verticals.

In consonance with this objective, FCI, North East Zone, has undertaken a plethora of events and activities across its various units in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Manipur. The Poshan Maah 2020 kick-started at the FCI Zonal Office (North East) here with inaugural speech by Flt Lt (Retd) MK Gogoi, Executive Director (North East). He stressed the importance of nutrition for a healthy life, especially in times of COVID-19 and the ways and means in which the movement for Poshan or nutrition can gain ground through collective efforts, said the statement.

Gogoi also flagged off a weeklong plantation drive of locally available green leafy vegetables across the various FCI units in the northeastern states.

Various plants like lemon, spinach, papaya, guava, tamarind, beans and stink vine (bhedai lota) featured in the drive as the officials concerned made use of the available space at offices and depots to erect permanent kitchen gardens.

Various other events, including poster-making competition and slogan writing contests, have been planned during the remaining part of the Poshan Maah 2020.

The basic intention of the events is to ensure that more and more people should be made aware of the benefits of nutrition for a healthy life, FCI North East Zone stated in the release.
