GUWAHATI, Aug 1 Food Corporation of India (FCI) Sports Club snatched one point from defending champions ASEB Sports Club in their RG Baruah Super Division Football League of Guwahati Sports Association, playing a goalless draw.
It was a dull match at the Nehru Stadium here today as both the teams were not in their best form. However, FCI squandered the golden opportunity to earn full points as they failed to hit the target off a spot kick in the 78th minute.
The formidable ASEB outfit looked liked a shadow of their previous teams and hardly could have any impact on their opponents and followers. Their mid-field work was quite ordinary. Although Sibra Narzary and Dibiendu Patra tried a little to plan some moves, other midfielder Sayed Ansar hardly found his feet on the ground. ASEB attackers Dipankar Sarkar and Chayaram Basumatary were virtually bottled up by the FCI defenders.
Chayaram, however, missed the target by a whisker in the 47th minute when his header hit the cross piece.
FCI players, on the other hand were more agile in comparison to their fancied opponent. Lalramrel Hmar and Laldingheta troubled the ASEB defenders on several occasions but their final punches were not perfect. FCIs star striker Thomson Langthasa was not in right form and miserably failed to trouble the opponent defenders.
In the later part of the match, ASEB made some planned moves but due to lack of coordination in the final stage and good goalkeeping by FCI keeper Gobinda Boro they could do little damage.
For FCI, the culprit was substitute N Momocha Singh who missed the spot kick. David Gayary was brought down by ASEB goalkeeper Daoga Brahma inside the box and referee Dipak Dey awarded a penalty to FCI. But Daoga had no difficulty in saving the feeble shot taken by Momcha diving to his right.
With this drawn match both the teams opened their account in point table. In their previous match both ASEB and FCI went down to their opponents.
