TURA, Oct 22 - In a case of rape of a six year-old and her 13 year-old step sister, Maharis (clan members) first tried to compromise the case and later tried hiding the accused father before the police arrested him after a complaint was filed by the mother.
The accused father has been identified as Mithunjoy N Marak of Nachirongdik village under Kharkutta police station in North Garo Hills.
The father had earlier raped his 13 year-old step daughter, an act the mother was an eye witness to. Later, he raped the 6 year-old on September 30 at the family house. Marak was arrested on October 15 after a complaint by the mother of the victim at Mendipathar PS.
What kind of animal does this to his own child? This act is not only condemnable but the work of the Maharis is even more condemnable. How can the Maharis try and shield such an act, asked social activist, Samgar Sangma.
Sources said, the father raped the 13 year-old step daughter earlier and after the matter was raised with the clan members, they settled on a compromise. However after his incestuous attempt on his own daughter, the Maharis compromised once again and even tried to hide the accused. Correspondent
