Fashion institute to celebrate Handloom Festival

GUWAHATI, July 18 � In the present-day fashion industry, Indian handloom is finding a strong footing in the high-end fashion garment category due to the aggressive promotional strategies and schemes by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India, an email received here said. This was witnessed recently during the �Handloom Week� held last December and which will continue to be an annual event.

This is indeed a pan-India event of handloom which was executed all across the country by North East Institute of Fashion & Technology (NEIFT), a local organisation from Assam.

Encouraged by the huge response it received at various platforms, NEIFT is all set to celebrate �North East Handloom Festival 2010� in the month of July. The CEO of NEIFT, Vikram Rai Medhi promised this event to be a platform of tremendous potential for the local designers, weavers and craftsmen to showcase their talent.

He also said that through this event the traditional users can interact with the new breed of designers and start a fashion revolution with their intrinsic patterns and rich weaves in the international and national fashion scenario.

The fashion capital of North-East Guwahati will witness the fashion show on July 21 at Hotel Landmark with Nabam Tuki, Minister of PWD & Urban Development, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh as the chief guest. Along with topline Indian models, the fashion show will also feature international models from Uruguay, Slovakia. Poland, etc.

The next destinations will be Itanagar and Dimapur. Fashion connoisseurs will be waiting in anticipation to revel in the colours of Indian handlooms which will be a kaleidoscope of North-East weavers.
