HAILAKANDI, Dec 19 - A daylong Krishak Mela was held in Hailakandi on Saturday. It was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Moloy Bora.
Inaugurating the mela at the office premises of District Agricultural Office, Deputy Commissioner Bora said that the farmers must come forward to avail farm machinery and implements at subsidised rates through direct bank transfer (DBT) system. Bora said it is a good opportunity for the farming community to avail farm implements at subsidised rates.
Bora said the farming community must take advantage of such melas to acquire modern agricultural machinery to raise the level of production and thus ameliorate their socio-economic condition.
The Deputy Commissioner exhorted the farmers to do away with middlemen and to get in touch directly with the bankers and agricultural officers through such Krishak Melas to avail the optimum benefits. Bora urged the beneficiaries and the farming community as a whole to switch to digital payment modes to reap the benefits that would also help to increase revenue collection of the government and prevent tax evasions.
Bora gave away agricultural implements like power tillers and threshers to some of the beneficiaries on the occasion. Senior Agricultural Officer AR Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
The Lead Bank Managers of concerned banks, approved dealers, field officials and farmers were present at the mela.
