Farmers urged to avail different schemes

HAILAKANDI, Feb 21 - An awareness campaign on Kisan Credit Card, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and Minimum Support Price (Paddy) under Externally Aided Fund and Aspirational District Programme generated good response among the farmers of the district.

The day-long campaign was jointly organised by the district administration and District Agriculture Office at GP Kanchanpur here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli appealed to the farmers to avail different schemes extended by the government such as KCC and PMFBY to double their income by raising productivity. The Deputy Commissioner said the farmers need not have to spend money to go to the government offices in towns to get their work done, as the administration today has come closer to them. She suggested the farmers to sell their paddy at minimum support price to the Food Corporation of India.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, EL Faihraem appealed to the farmers to come forward to avail the welfare-oriented schemes to enhance their income.

District Agriculture Officer, Aniruddha Dutta asked the farmers to pitch in more efforts in increasing production to raise their living standards.

Lead District Manager, Manna Das discussed at length various KCC-related matters, including how KCC can be restarted.

The awareness campaign meeting was presided over by Kanchanpur Gaon Panchayat President Lakhsmi Naidu. Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Debdutt Bhattacharjee, Senior Manager, Assam Gramin Vikash Bank, Hailakandi branch Arup Saikia were present on the occasion.

Earlier, Subdivisional Agriculture Officer, Dr AR Ahmed, in his welcome address, said the District Agriculture department is ready to extend all possible help and support to farmers of the district.

Documents submitted for PM-KISAN were physically verified by officials while KCC enrolment drive was carried out by State Bank of India and Assam Gramin Vikash Bank.
