Farmers sensitised on rice swarming caterpillar

DIBRUGARH, May 24 - As a follow up of the major outbreak of swarming caterpillar last year in sali paddy that caused damage in more than 6500 hectare area, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, here organised an awareness programme on pest management in rice ecosystem at block resource centre, Panitola with special emphasis on rice swarming caterpillar to sensitise the farmers in advance.

Arup Kumar Sarma, Subject Matter Specialist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dibrugarh explained the nature and extent of damage done by the pests. He spoke about diseases of rice and provided solutions to mitigate them in an integrated manner. He also shared his experience of the outbreak of rice swarming caterpillar gained last year and exhorted the �DOs and DON�Ts� to combat such outbreak.

About 40 progressive farmers from fifteen villages of Panitola ADO circle participated in the event. Firoj Moran, ADO (Panitola) also attended the programme and highlighted some of the agricultural schemes being implemented by State Department of Agriculture in the district, a release stated.
