Farmer award winner feted

NALBARI, March 22 - The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Nalbari felicitated woman farmer Padmabati Boro, who won the 2nd Best Farmer Award at the national level in a brief function held here on Wednesday.

The ceremony was attended by around 100 farmers of the district along with the district veterinary officer and district fishery development officer. Dr M Deka, Head of KVK, Nalbari addressed the participants on the occasion where he traced the journey of Padmabati Boro from a remote village of Chengnoi to the glittering floor of final realty show organised by DDK, New Delhi.

As a humble token of honour, she was felicitated with an appreciation letter and a phulam gamusa from KVK, Nalbari.

The DVO and DFDO appreciated her perseverance and congratulated her for the achievement. The Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University Dr KM Bujarbaruah and Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari Bharat Bhusan Devchoudhary also conveyed their best wishes and congratulations to her for her success, which they claimed will encourage the farmers and youth of the state.

She won the award in a ceremony organised by Doordarshan Kendra, New Delhi where KVK, Nalbari nominated her with the requisite video programmes and documentary evidence on sericulture, animal husbandry and poultry, besides horticulture and allied sectors prepared in collaboration with DDK Guwahati.

After a rigorous scrutiny of 110 national nominees in realty shows, the final evaluation was done among five finalists on March 15 in New Delhi where Padmabati Boro achieved second position next to the farmers nominated by KVK, Baramati of Maharashtra.

Boro in her address to the gathering at KVK, Nalbari thanked the organisation, Govt of India, DDK, New Delhi and DDK Guwahati and urged all the farmers and youth of India in general and Assam in particular, to prove their potential in fulfilling the national target of doubling farmers� income by 2022.
