DHUBRI July 26 - Dhubri district, which is infamous for the rapid growth of population, has recently seen a positive change, as more and more people are adopting all kinds of family planning methods in a great way.

Data provided by the National Health Mission to this newspaper states that in order to keep the number of members in a family stagnant, particularly in the village and char areas, people are moving towards inclusive family planning methods.

As per reports in 2015-16, there was tremendous growth in the adoption of such measures. As many as 10 male and 845 females have come forward for total sterilisation, 8,231 Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) and 2,971 Postpartum Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (PPIUCD) were installed. In regard to distribution of oral contraceptive pills and condoms, there has been a remarkable increase as the department has recorded 2586.58% and 5183% growth achievements.

Till July 24, a phenomenal growth was recorded by the NHM in this regard. A total number of 351 females have already availed sterilisation, along with 3,922 IUCD and 2,077 PPIUCD have already been installed. Similarly, distribution of oral contraceptive pills and condoms have also witnessed great growth during the current fiscal.

Sayed Mohammed Emdadullah, Joint Director of NHM here said this growth is because of the awareness among the people regarding the negative effects of having a large family.

The ground level awareness has increased and people have understood that having a large number of children is telling on their financial condition, said the Joint Director, who also added that people from char areas are mainly coming forward for such causes.

For a district like Dhubri, this change is indeed significant. If the rate growth goes on in such a way, then very soon we will succeed in curbing the unprecedented growth of population in the district, added Emdadullah, who also said that they are getting a lot of support from the local people and the ground-level workers towards encouraging people to come forward for adopting family planning techniques.
