GUWAHATI, May 4 - The Kamrup Metro district administration has started issuing �evacuation notice� to the families living in the landslide-prone zones here as incessant rainfall continues for the past few hours.
Sources at the disaster management authority said more than 300 areas of Guwahati have already been identified as vulnerable to the landslide. Damodar Barman, circle officer of Guwahati revenue circle, stated that his office has identified two families residing in the Kharghuli hillside area, who are vulnerable to the landslide, and one of them has already been given the evacuation notice.
�In the coming days, we may serve the evacuation notice on at least 15 families in the circle,� said Barman.
According to him, besides the Kharghuli hillside area, numbers of landslide-prone zones have been identified in Jyotinagar, Akashi Nagar, Bankonwar Nagar, Fatasil Ambari, Durga Sarobar, Nilachal Hill and Gotanagar areas.
He added that most of the families reside in the landslide-prone zones are encroachers.
In the Dispur circle area, the administration will serve the �evacuation notice� on at least 140 families, informed by an official of the district disaster management authority.
The official said numbers of landslide-prone areas in the Dispur circle region exist in Kahilipara, Gitanagar, Panipath, Bonda, Narengi, Ganesh Mandir Path, Jatia and Narakashur Hill.
In the Azara circle, the administration has served notice on 25 families. The administration also imposed a restriction on all kinds of earth cutting and earth filling activities in the hilly terrains, water bodies and low lying areas of the district.
An order issued by deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu stated that no earth cutting would be allowed till the monsoon season is over, even if permission has been procured from the regulatory authority like GMDA and GMC for any construction activity.
In this connection, the DC directed all the departments and enforcement agencies concerned, namely revenue circle officers, district police, forest department, PWD, transport department, soil conservation department, GMC, GMDA and panchayat functionaries not to permit any earth cutting and earth filling activities in the hilly terrains, water bodies and low lying areas of the district.
