GUWAHATI, June 20 - Large-scale anomalies in the District Transport Office, Kamrup have come to the fore after a private firm dealing in purchase and sale of old vehicles alleged that a racket inside the office of the DTO, Kamrup had issued fake registration certificates(RC) to the vehicle owners.
Even cases of forgery of data that costs huge losses to the State exchequer have been reported by a section of the employees of the DTO, Kamrup.
In fact, when enquired, it was found that the matter has already come to the notice of the department and Dwijen Das, the DTO (Registration and Licensing) on June 16 had written to the Commissioner of Transport that certain employees of AMTRON, which used to provide the computerized RCs till February 2010, resorted to such malpractices. It was also found that RCs were even issued without the requisite approval.
A joint inquiry was also suggested by the DTO in the letter to the Commissioner dated June 16.
Following this, the Additional Commissioner of Transport had written to the managing director of AMTRON asking the latter to furnish a detailed report on the allegations after enquiring the matter within seven days.
The department, it may be mentioned, had discontinued using AMTRON's software since February 7 and is now availing the service of its Vahansoftware.
The FIR, which was earlier lodged with the Chandmari police station, has now been forwarded to the Gorchuk police station. Police sources informed that the investigation into the case would be initiated soon.
This comes after the DTO, Nalbari along with nine of his staffs were arrested on charges of large scale irregularities committed in his office a few months back.
M/s New Done Motors, the city-based firm that deals with the business of buying and selling old vehicles, in its FIR, has alleged that a good number of RCs acquired from the DTO office have been found to be fake ones after the matter was reported to them by some of their customers recently.
We have the receipts with us and there seem to be a big racket behind this, Utpal Deka, proprietor of M/s New Done Motors said.
He went on to inform that such malpractices can put the first owner in serious trouble if any uncalled for incident happens with the vehicle even after the vehicle was sold.
Sources even claimed that many officials of the department too may be caught on the wrong foot provided a thorough investigation is done.
