By The Assam Tribune

SHILLONG, Sep 17 (IANS): The Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested a Bangladeshi national and seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) worth around Rs one lakh from his possession, an official release said on Thursday.

A BSF release said that acting on specific inputs, BSF troops deployed on the border along Meghalaya apprehended Bangladeshi national Badal Mia, 66, and seized Rs 96,000 of FICN, smuggled from across the border.

BSF troops earlier this week also recovered arms and ammunition along the Meghalaya border after these were smuggled from Bangladesh. BSF Deputy Inspector General U.K. Nayal said that the BSF personnel deployed along the Bangladesh border are performing their duties with full devotion to stop all illegal activities and trans-border crimes."

There are reports that FICN and cattle smuggling syndicates are again gearing up and trying to revive their illegal trade. All stakeholders should step forward, co-ordinate and launch special operations with BSF to stop the menace of trans-border smuggling," he said. Meghalaya shares a 443-km border with Bangladesh.
