Fake currency racket busted, 2 held

MANGALDAI, July 17 - A police team from Dhula PS, led by its officer in-charge, Sub Inspector Ranjit Hazarika, on Friday apprehended two persons involved in an inter-State fake currency racket. Rasul Ali (52) and Wazed Ali (26) were arrested during a search operation on the premises of one Abu Taher of Galandi Habi village under the Daipam Police Outpost in Darrang district.

The police also seized fake currency �amounting� to Rs 5,500 in the �denomination� of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 from their possession. The arrested duo confessed to the police that along with their accomplices in Karnataka, Kerala, Maldah (West Bengal) and elsewhere, they have been circulating fake currency notes in Darrang and Udalguri districts.

Further investigation is on to nab Taher and other identified members of the racket.
