BONGAIGAON, July 20 - Police nabbed three youths and seized fake Indian currency notes worth Rs.30,600 in the past 24 hours after conducting an operation based on a tip-off.
The arrested youths have been identified as Abdur Rahman (28), Ainul Haque (32) and Sudip Biswas (34).
A police team led by Bongaigaon ASP Amar Choudhury, Officer in Charge of Bongaigaon Police Station Jyoti Lahan and Sub-Inspector of North Bongaigaon Patrol Post Munindra Narayan Das first nabbed Abdur from Goraimari, Ainul from Manikpur and Sudip from Goalpara on Friday evening. On the basis of their statements, police conducted whole night operations on Friday to nab their associates but they fled before the police could reached them.
Police seized 220 fake currency notes of Rs 100 denomination and 43 notes of Rs 200 denomination amounting to Rs 30,600 from Abdur and Ainul. Abdur is a resident of Patiladoha in Bongaigaon district and Ainul lives in South Salmara area.
The police said that Sudip was supposed to give Rs 5 lakh fake notes to Abdur and Ainul on Friday and on the basis of this tip-off, police had conducted the operation. Sudip, a resident of Bapuji Nagar in Goalpara town, brought the fake currencies from Mandia in Barpeta district and sold them at 75 per cent less than their actual value, police said.
This racket has already released 10,000 fake notes of Rs 100 and 200 in the markets of Bongaigaon, so police has called upon the people of the district to be alert in dealing with such notes.
Police has registered a case no.527/2019 under Sections 489 (B)/34 of IPC against the trio, Officer in Charge of Bongaigaon Police Station Jyoti Lahan said.
