GUWAHATI, April 12 - A fake Android mobile application of The Assam Tribune (AT) e-paper has been developed by hitherto unidentified cyber offenders following which Assam Police�s intervention was sought.
Assam Police later took to various social media platforms and declared the app a fake and unauthorised one.
Referring to it as a �Fake News Alert�, an Assam Police post on Facebook stated: �The mobile app of The Assam Tribune newspaper available on Google Play store is fake and unauthorised. Do not download, use or make any payment. The Assam Tribune does not have any app.�
An identical statement was issued on Assam Police�s twitter handle as well to raise an alert. A senior Assam Police official said the matter is being looked into with all seriousness and appropriate action would be taken against the offenders.
The Assam Tribune has an online edition which is updated regularly and also an e-paper which is uploaded every night.
