EZ hails BCCI decision

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, April 26 Thank God that Assam Cricket Association (ACA) was not allotted any IPL match, otherwise the income tax sleuths might have raided the ACA office here and the officials would have been harassed.

Finally the controversy-hit IPL III came to an end yesterday and immediately after the final, IPL chairman Lalit Modi was sacked from his post by the BCCI.

In a BCCI notification issued by president Sashank Manohar, Modi, who is also a BCCI vice president, was not only suspended, but was also barred from attending the working committee or any other BCCI sub-committee meetings.

The East Zone committee of the BCCI today hailed the BCCI decision to sack Modi but said the IPL should be continued. East Zone convenor and ACA secretary Bikash Baruah today said the secretaries of East Zone States like Orissa, Jharkhand and Tripura discussed the matter and welcomed the Boards decision. Baruah, however, intimated the Board that the IPL accounts have to be transparent to all and the income tax should be paid properly to the Government.

Terming former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadavs opinion to ban IPL as baseless, the East Zone committee said IPL is a great event as along with the players, the BCCI affiliated units also get adequate financial benefits.

Indian youngsters also have gained experience by sharing the dressing room with some of the worlds leading cricketers.

Baruah also revealed that the ACA in the BCCIs next annual general meeting will claim the losses that were incurred in 2008 when the India-England ODI was abandoned after the Mumbai terror attack.
