Eye camp conducted at Hailakandi

HAILAKANDI, May 23 - Under the auspices of Sri Ramakrishna Seva Samiti, a free eye check-up camp was held at the Ramakrishna Mission campus here on Sunday.

The incharge of the Eye Department of SK Roy Civil Hospital here along with the District Programme Officer of the National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB), Dr Sumona Das Bhattacharjee checked 47 patients, including women and children. Of them, six patients were selected for cataract surgery.

The surgery will be done free of cost at a mutually convenient date. Free medicines were also distributed among the patients. Dr Bhattacharjee was assisted by two ophthalmic assistants, namely Prabir Roy and Bhumidhar Das.

The camp was attended by all the Samiti members and newly-elected MLA of Hailakandi, Anwar Hussain Laskar. The president of Sri Ramakrishna Seva Samiti, Premangshu Sekhar Paul informed that they have a plan to offer spectacles to the patients living below poverty line.

Eye surgeon Dr Bhattacharjee urged the people to get their eyes checked regularly to save it from damage. She also stressed on the need of creating awareness regarding eye check-up among the masses.
