IMPHAL, Oct 18 - Popular American glam rock band Extreme arrived here today for their maiden performance in India, on the concluding day of the ongoing ShiRock 2019, a four-day annual international rock music competition-cum-festival at the district headquarters of Ukhrul district.

ShiRock, one of the biggest rock music competitions in the North East which will conclude tomorrow, has been held as part of the State Government-sponsored Shirui Lily Festival, which is currently being held at three venues in Ukhrul. The festival is aimed at promoting the State flower, Shirui Lily, and also young talents.

Soon after their arrival in Manipur, which is emerging as the most popular destination for international rock bands, band frontman Gary Cherone and lead guitarist and founding member Nuno Bettencourt told reporters that they are expecting a good crowd.

Responding to a question on the current music scene, vocalist Gary said, I think the music consumption has changed because of digital streaming. Echoing him, drummer Kelvin Figueiredo and bassist Pat Badger agreed that the Internet has changed the music scene across the globe.

On the opening day of ShiRock on Wednesday night, Nazareth regaled a 30,000-strong audience of rock music lovers for more than 90 minutes.
