GUWAHATI, June 16 � A meeting of the executive committee of the Asom Sankhyalaghu Sangram Parishad held here today demanded extension of time for submission of the application forms for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC). It reasoned that there is a dearth of application forms and flood has also made collection of the required documents a tough job in many areas.

It also made a fervent appeal to all sections of the people of the State to extend their cooperation to the ongoing process of updating the NRC.

It has directed its district committees to make the common people aware of the updating process of this document through public meetings and to help the common people in correctly filling up their individual forms for the purpose.

The Parishad executive committee has also called for steps to implement the legislation adopted during the Chief Ministership of late Hiteswar Saikia for filling up the vacant third and fourth grade posts in the districts as per their respective population patterns prior to the 2016 Assembly elections.

The meeting presided over by Parishad president Md Abdul Aziz, also called for urgent measures to supply adequate quantity of food stuff, fodder and medicines to the

flood-hit areas.
