DOOMDOOMA, June 22 - Doomdooma Town Committee (DDTC) has submitted a detailed plan for the extension of Doomdooma town to the State government for approval.
Talking to the delegations of Doomdooma Press Club (DPC) and Doomdooma Senior Citizen Association (DSCA) during a discussion at his office chamber on Wednesday, DDTC Chairman Dulu Arandhra informed the submission of the plan. He also said that at present the town did not have sufficient land for some projects. So, DDTC has urged the State government to vacate some land of Beesakopie TE adjacent to the town up to Rupai Siding bridge so that the town could be expanded.
�Due to paucity of sufficient land we are unable to take up many developmental projects,� said the chairman. He sought cooperation from DPC and DSCA in this regard.
Pankaj Nagbonshi, the Executive Officer of DDTC and the Circle Officer of Doomdooma Revenue Circle said that Doomdooma railway station which is in an abandoned state at present will be upgraded to a junction as a new railway track from Doomdooma to Parashuramkund in Arunachal Pradesh will be set up soon. The Railway has completed the necessary survey for this project and has urged the Revenue department to initiate formalities for land acquisition for the project.
It may be mentioned here that DPC and DSCA held a joint meeting at DPC on June 15 to discuss about various problems faced by the citizens of the tea town. In the meeting, it was decided that both the organisations will work together for the betterment of the town and will pressurise the competent authorities to solve the problems of the town on a priority basis.
At the initial stage, a delegation of both the organisations met the Executive Officer of DDTC urging him to solve four main problems of the town viz., eviction of illegal encroachment of the pavements of the town, immediate repairing of the main roads of the town, measures for controlling the traffic jam and to shift the Tuesday market to a suitable place.
To discuss on these points, the Executive Officer called the delegates of both the organisations to DDTC office on Wednesday. During the discussion the Chairman and the Executive Officer assured the delegates to solve these problems soon. They also informed that due to paucity of fund, the local body had failed to take up any major project in the town.
In the discussion, DPC was represented by its president Anuj Kalita, secretary Abhijit Khataniar and senior member Arjun Baruah while DSCA was represented by its president Beena Deka, vice president Dr Abdul Qudir, treasurer Giridhari Nanda and member Bbabesh Lahkar. The head assistant of DDTC Pradeep Baishya was also present in the discussion.
