Explosives found in Guwahati-bound bus

GUWAHATI, Aug 10 � Following the recovery of arms and explosives from a Guwahati-bound bus in Dhubri district, Assam Police today reviewed the security arrangements in the capital city.

Along with the arms and explosives, Dhubri police along with Border Security Force personnel have reportedly recovered a letter in which some of the crowded areas like Jalukbari and Ganeshguri were underlined.

Asked to comment, Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Deepak Choudhury told The Assam Tribune that they are in touch with Dhubri police, which is verifying the incident from all angles.

�Of course, arms and explosives have been recovered but it would be premature to comment on anything at this moment. The matter is being investigated and things would be clear soon,� Choudhury pointed out.

The SSP further stated that security arrangements in and around the capital city is consistently reviewed in view of the ensuing Independence Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, sources in the police department divulged that cadres of banned outfits like the NDFB and the ULFA are making desperate attempts to sneak into the city and that security forces are keeping track of their activities.

�Security has been tightened and additional security personnel have also been deployed in and around all vital installations,� the sources added.

The sources further added that special security arrangements have been put in place with round-the-clock vigil in and around the Latasil playground.
