Experts review Buralikson Sugarcane Research Station

DERGAON, Sept 7 - A team of national level sugarcane scientists visited the Buralikson Sugarcane Research Station (BSRS) under Assam Agricultural University (AAU), 15 km from Dergaon town, recently.

The team of All India Coordinated Programme on Sugarcane (AICPS) was led by noted sugarcane scientist of Karnataka Dr KP Salin and was accompanied by Dr VK Gupta and Dr VP Singh of Uttar Pradesh, Dr V Ramchandra of Tamilnadu and Dr Sajan of Kerala.

The team took stock of the activities of the BSRS and expressed its satisfaction over the research-oriented activities for development of scientifically inherited species of farmer-friendly sugarcane. It�s worth mentioning here that the only sugarcane research station in the North-east, BSRS has done well in this field under the leadership of chief scientist Dr Bijnan Ch Bordoloi.

The team also interacted with the president and the secretary of Khanikar Jutia Samabay Krishi Paam, namely, Jatin Phukan and Ratul Dutta and reviewed the sugarcane production in the greater Missamara area. The team also had a discussion with the director of AAU, Dr GN Hazarika.
