Expert committee formed to study State�s economy

GUWAHATI, June 21 - To study the present economic condition of the State, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today constituted a four-member expert committee under the chairmanship of noted economist Dr Shreenath Baruah.

The other members of the committee are Abhijit Baruah, Dr Amal Kumar Barpujari and Rajendra Prasad Gupta.

According to a statement issued by the APCC, the committee will study in details the present economic situation of Assam and submit the report with suggestions, action plans and roadmap, etc., to revive the economy of the State.

The committee will submit the report within two months along with an action plan for five years.

In its study, the expert committee will focus on infrastructure development, rapid industrialisation, revival of and strengthening the MSMEs, creation of adequate employment opportunities, including rehabilitation of the returnee migrant workers, development of agricultural economy, creation of local markets for different products of the State, bridging the digital divide, expansion of communication and eco-tourism, measures to increase per capita income and purchasing power of the people of Assam, mobilisation of resources and revenue and any other matter, which the expert committee deems fit and proper.
