GUWAHATI, June 11 - The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) brought an expert from Kolkata to repair the damaged water machines of the Satpukhuri plant at Uzanbazar but he was sent for quarantine soon after he landed in Guwahati.
Sources said the expert, Sudip Saha, is likely to be released from quarantine after getting some tests done.
Saha, service engineer of the Wilo Mather & Platt Pumps Pvt Ltd, Kolkata, was requested by the GMC Commissioner Devajyoti Hazarika on June 3 to visit the pump installation site.
A GMC source said there is an urgent need to check, rectify and make the pumps operational again, as these pumps are associated with distribution of drinking water to some important VIP areas and also other areas of the city.
Due to the damaged machines, only 50 per cent of the water has been supplied to the areas concerned. That is why people have got less water in those areas, the source added.
Water supply in Chandmari, Chandmari Colony, Kharghuli, Noonmati, Silpukhuri and the surrounding areas of the city has been partially affected due to the damaged machines.
