By The Assam Tribune

Silchar, February 9: In an interesting twist to the political scenario in Barak Valley, former Congress MLA from Borkhola, Dr Rumi Nath, who is currently expelled from the party has approached the Assam Pradesh Congress committee (APCC) seeking nomination for the Assembly election.

"People of my constituency have urged me to step out of home and contest in the election to echo their wishes and needs. As a former Congress legislator, I am confident the party high command will give me a positive response regarding withdrawal of my suspension and also decide in the affirmative on my nomination," Dr Nath told The Assam Tribune.

Meanwhile, Silchar District Congress Committee president Pradip Dey reacted saying, candidates seeking nominations must approach the APCC maintaining all the formalities. But, since the former legislator is under expulsion, she is not entitled to seek nomination. "Even if anything is submitted, the application would be scrutinised and verified, the DCC president maintained adding that he has not received any information on the issue.
