By Correspondent

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, July 16 - The Forest Department here recovered and subsequently seized timber of exotic trees worth several lakhs from two different parts of the district.

Personnel of the Forest Department raided a premise at Chamuagaon on the southeastern outskirts of North Lakhimpur town and recovered a sizeable amount of exotic timber of Simolu trees.

The seizure consisted of 37 pieces of logs of the exotic Simolu tree. In another raid, the Forest Department recovered timber of Bogipoma, Uriam and Singari trees from two premises at Bandarbari on the eastern suburb of North Lakhimpur town on Saturday.

The seized timber consisted of 188 pieces of planks. The timber was approximately three months old. The seizures indicate unabated felling of exotic Simolu trees in Lakhimpur district despite Government efforts on the contrary.
