GUWAHATI, May 16 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies are in an upbeat mood with the exit polls giving them overwhelming majority in the elections to the Assam Legislative Assembly, but the Congress has termed the exit polls as biased ones.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, BJP state unit vice president Santanu Bharali said the exit polls reflected the mood of the voters of the State. He said the people of the State voted for a change and the exit polls reflected the mood of the people. He also said that the BJP and its allies are hopeful of getting more seats than what the exit polls had reflected.

On the other hand, the Congress is not ready to accept the verdict of the exit polls. Terming the exit polls biased, APCC vice president Ripun Bora said such polls failed to give a correct picture during the elections in Bihar and Delhi. Even in the 2011 elections in the State, most of the exit polls proved to be wrong, he said.

Bora said that very limited size of the voters in each constituency is covered by such exit polls and in Assam, the mood of the voters vary from village to village. He asserted that the BJP-led alliance would not get around 80 seats as reflected in the exit polls. At the same time, he claimed that the Congress would be able to form the next government in the State.

However, the exit poll results have generated a keen interest among the political observers.
