SILCHAR, May 7 Ahead of Rabindra Jayanti, a one-day exhibition on the life and works of poet laureate Rabindranath Tagore was organised on Wednesday at Emmanuel English Higher Secondary School, Pailapool, 30 km from here.
The exhibition was organised in association with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi and in collaboration with Womens College, Silchar.
The staff and students of the school and also other schools and colleges under the Lakhipur subdivision of Cachar district visited the exhibition which showcased a rich collection of Tagores photographs and paintings portraying his life and works.
Inaugurating the exhibition, Prof Rabindra Roy, a faculty member of Nehru College, Pailapool, emphasised that Rabindranath Tagore was a poet and writer not only for India alone but also for the entire world. Dr Manoj Kumar Paul, principal of Womens College, noted that the distinction of Tagore from the poets and writers of his time was his representation of the thoughts, feelings and views of the common man.
Urirei Singh, director and principal of Emmanuel English HS School, expressed her gratitude to Womens College, Silchar, for taking the initiative of bringing such a priceless national treasure for the benefit of the children of the Lakhipur subdivision. She hoped that there will be more such collaborative work and effort among the two educational institutions.
It may be mentioned that a similar exhibition was held at Womens College, Silchar, in March this year and it is being expanded to other academic establishments and organisations of the district as a part of the mobile exhibition programme by the IGNCA.
