GUWAHATI, Oct 15 - The �Mega Multimedia Interactive Exhibition� commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, organised by the Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB), Guwahati, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, was inaugurated on Monday evening at the Sonaram High School playground by Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi.
The exhibition depicts some of the objects and possessions of Mahatma Gandhi along with some rare pictures of his visit to various places in Assam.
In the exhibition, handwritten letters of Mahatma Gandhi, rare pictures of his life and stay in South Africa, flip book, and complete timeline of Gandhi are also being showcased.
Prof Mukhi, in his speech, emphasised the relevance of Gandhian principles in today�s times. Appreciating the unique initiative of the ROB to depict Gandhi�s life and freedom struggle on a mobile train, he said the organisers must take further initiatives to run an exclusive train exhibition on Gandhi�s life and freedom struggle across the country, a PIB release said. Member of Parliament Queen Oja, while addressing the audience, said that Gandhi united the whole country with his teachings of non-violence and it was time for the masses to follow his teaching in their lives.
LR Vishwanath, Director General of North East Zone, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, informed the gathering that the week-long exhibition covering an area of 10,000 sq ft was the first-of-its-kind in the entire North East. �The exhibition is about showcasing the life, philosophy and ideals of Gandhiji,� he added.
The seven-day event will feature various performances such as dance, drama, interactive sessions and discussions. Each day, the exhibition will showcase cultural programmes like mimes, folk dances depicting culture and tradition of different tribes of Assam and other parts of the North East.
A major attraction of the exhibition will be a five-hour Dance Marathon depicting dance forms of the eight North-eastern states by artistes of the Song & Drama Division at the closing ceremony.
