Execution of Lumding-Silchar BG line demanded

KARIMGANJ, Dec 19 � The Railway Ministry has given false information regarding execution of the Lumding-Silchar BG project. The allegation has been voiced by the central committee president of NF Railway Employees� Union, Subir Kumar Chatterjee.

In a meeting of the union held at Lala, Chatterjee demanded immediate implementation of the BG project. He also demanded execution of the Chandranathpur- Lanka BG project. The central committee president disclosed that earlier, the Railway authority had given preference to execute the Chandranathpur-Lanka BG line but following political pressure, the Railway Ministry changed the decision and announced the conversion of the Lumding-Silchar MG line to BG line.

Chatterjee stressed the need to commence the Chandranathpur-Lanka BG line which, according to him, will shorten the distance between Silchar and Guwahati. The employees� union may exert pressure if peoeple of the region will launch a movement for the demand, he added.

Commenting on the alleged negligence of the Railway authorities in giving proper attention to the BG project, he alleged that due to conspiracy of political leaders and transport lobby, the Lumding-Silchar BG project has been delayed. The NF Railway Employees� Union stressed the need for introducing the Silchar-Karimganj inter-city train. To take stock of the railway infrastrucure of Tripura and Barak Valley and condition of the Railway employees, the president of the NF Railway Employees� Union visited the valley and Tripura. The MG line of the region is in a dilapidated state, he said. Lack of maintenance, instruments, insufficient quarters, water supply, power, health services have made the life of the employees miserable. He also expressed concern over the new pension scheme of the Railways.
