Exclusive job website for NE launched

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, July 26 - Finding the right job after completion of studies is never an easy job. The role of the media too is limited in this connection and many job seekers from the State have often found themselves in a situation of confusion while searching for a job that meets their expectation.

To make things easy for the students who have passed out from different institutions, a group of individuals from the State, most of them working outside have come up with a website that lists job information related to Assam and the North East.

The website Sakori.Org (www.sakori.org), started last month is a voluntary, non-profit website listing jobs from various sources including company websites, job sites, local newspapers etc. According to Buljit Buragohain, an IITG student who is also behind the launching of this website, since its humble starting the website has found encouraging reception from youth of the region.

With more than 100 visits per day, it ranks among the top visited non-news sites of the North East, claimed Buragohain.

Buragohain further said that the need for a job website dedicated to Assam and the North East was long felt. It needs to be mentioned here that many websites from the North East has a job section, but they are seldom updated and do not have exhaustive job information.

A job website entirely catering to the people of North East was never a reality. This is where Sakori.Org tries to fill in the void, said Buragohain.

The founder of the website Satyakam Dutta, an ex-student of IIT Bombay said that his experience while searching for a job was the motivating force behind the website, After completing my education, I always wanted to go back to Assam and settle there. But inspite of studying in the best institutes in India, I could not find a suitable job in Assam. In the process of searching for jobs in Assam, I realised that there was no website which catered to people like us, who were willing to go back to Assam and work there. Thus, I planned to start this website, he said.

In its first month of operation, Sakori.Org has listed more than 75 job postings for more than 200 vacancies. People can also get into discussions in the website.

The members of the website are planning to form a network of colleges in Assam and provide them career and job related content for their wall magazines and notice boards. Xomidhan.Org, another voluntary group which has more than 100 career counsellors, will partner in this initiative.

In collaboration with Xomidhan.Org, we are also planning to start a resume building service, which will help people to frame their resumes to the suitability of the recruiters, said Dutta.

Dutta added that with the economy opening up, a lot of job opportunities was coming up in Assam and the North East.
