MANGALDAI, June 13 - Dealing seriously with the allegation of extortion and sexual harassment against three constables of the Darrang Excise department, the Office of the Commissioner of Excise, Rakesh Kumar on Tuesday has taken departmental action against all the three erring Excise officials.

The action came into effect immediately after a news item with the headline �Excise officials accused of extortion and sexual harassment� published in Monday�s issue of The Assam Tribune drew the attention of the State Excise Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya, who quickly responded with a direction to take necessary departmental action against the Excise officials accused of serious criminal offences. Accordingly, the Office of the Excise Commissioner on Tuesday vide its order no. III-322 /2016-2017/ 26 has transferred Iskander Mirza and Noor Islam from Darrang and posted them in Tinsukia while the other accused constable Padmaram Nath was by the same order transferred and posted to Dibrugarh with immediate effect. Several public organisations of Darrang district including the AJYCP, Darrang District Mahila Samiti, Mangaldai Media Circle among others have welcomed the initiative taken by the Excise Minister in the interest of the public of Darrang.
