Excise Control Room opened in Silchar

SILCHAR, Oct 5 - In a bid to put a check on the instances of illegal sale of alcohol during Durga Puja days, tge Department of Excise has opened a 24-hour Control Room in Silchar.

Minister of Excise Parimal Suklabaidya ceremonially opened the control room here at Park Road on the night of Maha Sashti. Making the intension of his department very clear, Suklabaidya said, �This is first of a kind initiative taken by the department in the State to ensure safety of the people during Durga Puja days. There will be no half-hearted measures in checking instances of disturbing the devotees by anyone in drunken state or even on illegal sale of liquor. The control room shall be stay open round-the-clock and anyone can approach the department in person or can dial helpline number 03842232020 to report on any untoward incident.� He hoped that such control rooms could be opened across other parts of the State in the coming days.

Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri termed the opening of the Excise Control Room as the need of the hour. Excise Superintendent Sunil Sinha informed that a large consignment of illicit liquor was recovered by the department officials on Friday night.

Meanwhile, following tradition, the Deputy Commissioner performed sankalpa at the puja organised by Zila Prasashan Karmachari Santha inside the District and Session Court campus.
