Excesses by security personnel alleged

GUWAHATI, March 25 - In a complaint addressed to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Noonmati), Raj Kumar Rai, Suresh Kumar and Promod Rai, residents of Puberun Nagar under Satgaon Police Station here, alleged that on the night of March 22, police and CRPF personnel led by the Officer-in-charge of Satgaon PS brutally beat up some residents of the locality after a roadside quarrel.

According to the complaint, on March 22 evening some people attacked Basistha Rai, a resident of Puberun Nagar, near the railway track following an altercation over parking of vehicles.

After about half an hour of the incident, police reached the spot and started an enquiry. But around 8 pm of the same evening, a team of security personnel led by the OC of Satgaon PS came to Puberun Nagar and indiscriminately beat up some people, including women and children.

The security personnel, without any proper authority, entered the residences of more than 20 inhabitants of Puberun Nagar one by one and beat up the inmates. Further, the security personnel were not accompanied by any policewoman during the raid, the complaint stated.

According to complainants they have also sent copies of the complaint to the Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro), the Director General of Assam Police, Dispur MLA Atul Bora, Guwahati MP Bijaya Chakraborty, the Chief Minister�s Office, the Union Ministry of Defence and to the Prime Minister�s Office.

Meanwhile, ACP (Noonmati) Pallav Tamuli informed The Assam Tribune that he has not got the complaint till this evening.
