Ex-student leaders, retd govt officers join AJP

GUWAHATI, Dec 9 - A number of retired government officials and former student leaders, including retired IAS officer Shamsher Singh, today joined the newly formed Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).

AJP coordinator Jagdish Bhuyan said more retired bureaucrats and influential mass leaders would come into the party fold ahead of the new regional party�s first general convention slated on December 16 and 17 at Sivasagar.

Harendra Nath Bhuyan, retired general manager of NABARD, Bhubon Sarmah, retired engineer of Brahmaputra Board, Pradeep Ranjan Kar, retired Superintendent of Police, PK Bhagawati, retired State government Secretary, Prince Faizul Haque, former AASU leader, Debajit Adhikary, former vice president of PGSU (Gauhati University) and former AASU members Sabita Deka and Abinash Sarmah, Deepak Kalita, working president of Hawkers� Association, among others, joined the party today.

Shamsher Singh said that the AJP is the best unadulterated political platform in the present situation to serve the cause of the State and its people.

�With their vast experience in the field of administration and public life, our new members would certainly contribute towards our cause in a meaningful way and once the party�s State committee is formed after the convention, they would be entrusted with different assignments,� Bhuyan added.

AJP conveners Basanta Deka and KG Bhattacharyya were also present on the occasion.
