Ex-student leader passes away

GUWAHATI, Oct 14 - Former student leader Nireshwar Rabha breathed his last at a private hospital here last night. He was 51. He was the elder brother of the AASU vice president Bipul Rabha and a resident of Jatia here.

Nireshwar Rabha was a former president of the All Guwahati School Students� Union and former vice president of the All Guwahati Students� Union. He had played a key role during the Assam Agitation and faced immense torture in the hands of the government machinery. He had also made significant contributions in establishing the base of the AASU in the Barak Valley.

He was also an office-bearer of the Dispur Gana Sangram Parishad and the All Guwahati Gana Sangram Parishad and one of the core founders of the Brihattar Ganeshguri Rongali Bihu Sanmilani.

His last rites were performed at Jatia today, in which AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath, adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya, president of Nikhil Rabha Chatra Sanstha Ramen Singh Rabha, artist Biren Singha and others took part. He is survived by his wife.
