DIBRUGARH, May 18 - In a tragic incident that has triggered sensation in the town, one Sanjay Das, a former SSB jawan, shot dead his wife Swapna Das, son Nabajyoti Das and his maternal uncle Ghanakanta Hazarika today. The incident occurred around 11:30 am at their residence in Hukanpukhuri under Borborooah PS where Sanjoy Das shot his wife inside their kitchen and then shot at his 20-year-old son with his pistol.
He then went to his maternal uncle�s house in Bogipool, Kumaronichiga and fired upon him.
All the three members, who sustained bullet injuries, were rushed to the Assam Medical College and Hospital but the attending doctors declared them dead.
The incident has been presumed to be an outcome of family discord and alcoholism.
Referring to the statements of some family members, Superintendent of Police Sreejith T said, �We are of the view that Sanjay Das is an alcoholic and in unsound mind.
We have alerted the security forces and have asked them to cordon off the area because the shooter has fled with his gun.�
