GUWAHATI, Sept 27 - The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing of the Assam Police today arrested Chabin Rajkhowa, the former secretary of Srimanta Sankardev Kalashetra, on charges of corruption.

Rajkhowa had allegedly misappropriated funds to the tune of Rs 1.10 crore that was released for Sankardev Kalakshetra by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts. Rajkhowa was the secretary of the Sankardeva Kalakshetra from July 2, 2009, to July 11, 2011.

A case (22/2017) was registered by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in July last year under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act against Rajkhowa and two others.

Earlier this year, investigators had also arrested Dwipen Sarma, treasurer and assistant accountant of Sanakardeva Kalakshetra.

Sources informed that Rajkhowa was arrested from his residence at Guwahati after which he was produced before the Court of Special Judge, Assam.

The Court remanded Rajkhowa to four-day police custody.
