Ex-satradhikar Prabhat Goswami passes away

GUWAHATI, June 16 - Former Satradhikar of the historic Syamrai Satra and a prominent social worker of yesteryears, Prabhat Chandra Goswami died at his own residence at Palasbari in Kamrup (Rural) district on Thursday evening due to old-age ailments. He was 99.

A kind-hearted man, Goswami was closely associated with various socio-religious organisations of Palasbari and its adjoining areas. As a satradhikar of the historic Syamrai Satra, Goswami maintained cordial relations with every section of the society, especially among the downtrodden section. His strove to improve the condition of the flood-ravaged people of Palasbari area.

Witness of many historic events of the country, be it the Freedom Struggle, India�s Independence, Chinese aggression, the Great Earthquake of 1950, Assam Agitation, etc., Goswami vividly remembered many interesting facts relating to these events till his last breath and shared these with others, especially among his grand children.

His funeral procession was attended by a large number of people reflecting his popularity among the masses.

He leaves behind two sons, seven daughters along with a host of grandchildren, great grand children, relatives and well wishers.
